Melissa Mark-Viverito,Speaker of the New-York City Council was among hundreds of immigrants,activists and other official elected who marched last sunday december 18th through Manhattan in New York City to tell to send a message to the elected president Donald Trump: ''we are here to stay''.
‘’This battle is just beginning,’’ she said.’’We are going to be out on the street insistently to push back against what they’re attempting to do’’.She added.
Melissa Mark-Viverito said New York City would do its best to stop the incoming administration to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
Born and raised in San Juan,in Puerto Rican,Melissa Mark-Viverito currently serves as the Speaker of the New York City Council.She is the first Puerto Rican and Latina to hold a citywide elected position.She served for over a decade in local activism,non profit organisation and labor before being elected to the City Council in 2005,as the first Puerto Rican woman and Latina to represent her District in the Council.
